The short answer is that there isn’t any laminate flooring on the market that’s totally scratch proof. It’s just a fact that any flooring material, from natural wood to engineered timber or hybrid flooring, can be damaged. However, there are a few factors that will determine how resistant your laminate is to damage.
The answer is both yes and no. Laminate flooring that’s 8mm with a medium density fibre (MDF) core is used by a lot of big retail stores and builders that work on big-volume projects. It’s essentially a mass-market product and is popular.
Laminate flooring is made from several layers: backing, substrate, pattern, and coating layers. The coating is a clear covering that encloses the printed wood pattern. Under this sits the core, which is made from high density fibreboard, and a structurally sound backboard.
Some people may be used to steam cleaning, frequent vacuuming or even waxing and polishing their floors, but laminate flooring needs none of that! A quick wipe with a spray mop from BONA is the best methodology for cleaning.
