The short answer is that there isn’t any laminate flooring on the market that’s totally scratch proof. It’s just a fact that any flooring material, from natural wood to engineered timber or hybrid flooring, can be damaged. However, there are a few factors that will determine how resistant your laminate is to damage.
The answer is both yes and no. Laminate flooring that’s 8mm with a medium density fibre (MDF) core is used by a lot of big retail stores and builders that work on big-volume projects. It’s essentially a mass-market product and is popular.
Laminate flooring is comprised of 4 layers: backing, substrate, pattern, and wear layers. The wear layer is a protective coating that lays over the printed wood-pattern layer. Under this is the core, which is constructed from high density fibreboard, and a back board to provide stability.
One benefit of using laminate flooring is its durability. Laminate flooring has what’s called AC ratings. AC stands for ‘abrasion class’ We stock laminate which runs up to AC5, which is rated for commercial use due to its superior scratch resistance. We also stock laminate that uses high-density fibre core, rather than medium density fibre, which is softer and more dent prone.
