Engineered timber flooring is a flooring created by adhering a timber veneer to a spruce backing. This means you get the look of solid timber, but the costs of sourcing and installation are far lower.
By using as little as 0.6 millimetres of timber, as compared to solid timbers minimum of 19 millimetres, the price is massively reduced. Choosing a slightly thicker timber veneer might increase the cost somewhat, but it will allow for more sanding before the flooring needs to be replaced.
